Burial in a
national cemetery is an honor reserved for Armed Forces veterans and their eligible dependents. The Department of Veterans
Affairs maintains this tradition on behalf of a grateful Nation.
VA benefits associated with internment in a
national cemetery are many. They include Furnishing a grave space; Opening and closing the grave; Graveliner [outside container];
Providing the interment site with perpetual care; Supplying a grave marker; The surviving spouse in entitled to burial at
the time of their demise alongside their lover ones.
Persons arranging for an interment should be
aware that: An Honorable Discharge Paper or Separation Form from the Military will help expedite eligibility proceedings.
All interment services are conducted in the Committal Shelter. Cremations may be placed in the ground or in a Columbarium.
While this is but a brief look into what you
can expect when your loved one is interred, your funeral director will be glad to provide details or answer questions about
VA cemeteries or other burial benefits.
